Privacy Policy

Platto (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates platto.food. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we handle it.

What we collect

Account data. When you sign up, we collect your name and email address through our authentication provider, Clerk (clerk.com). This is used to create and manage your account.

Food preferences. You tell us what ingredients you like, what you avoid, and how much time you have to cook. We store this to generate your weekly meal plans.

Payment data. Payments are processed by Creem (creem.io), which acts as our Merchant of Record. We do not store your credit card details or billing information directly. Creem handles all payment processing, tax collection, and billing. See Creem's privacy policy for details.

Usage data. We collect basic analytics (pages visited, features used) through Umami to improve Platto. This may include your IP address, browser type, device information, and your account's internal user ID when you are signed in.

Error and performance data. We use Sentry to monitor errors and application performance. Sentry may collect session data, browser information, and technical details related to errors you encounter while using Platto.

How we use your data

  • To generate personalized meal plans and grocery lists based on your preferences
  • To manage your account and subscriptions
  • To improve Platto and fix bugs
  • To monitor and resolve technical issues
  • To send transactional emails (account confirmation, payment receipts)

We do not sell your personal data. We do not use your data for advertising.

Third-party services

We use the following services to operate Platto:

  • Convex (database): stores your account data, food preferences, and meal plans. Data is hosted in the United States. See Convex's privacy policy.
  • Clerk (authentication): stores your login credentials and session data. See Clerk's privacy policy.
  • Creem (payments): processes payments and handles billing as Merchant of Record. See Creem's privacy policy.
  • Vercel (hosting): hosts the application. See Vercel's privacy policy.
  • Umami (analytics): collects usage analytics and custom product events. See Umami's privacy policy.
  • Sentry (error monitoring): captures error reports and session data to help us diagnose and fix issues. See Sentry's privacy policy.
  • Google Gemini (AI): processes your food preferences to generate meal plans. Your preferences are sent to Google's API, but no personal identifying information (name, email) is included in these requests. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Braintrust (AI observability): logs AI-generated meal plan requests and responses, which may include your food preferences, to monitor and improve the quality of generated plans. See Braintrust's privacy policy.

Data storage and security

Your data is primarily stored on servers in the United States (Convex, Vercel, Sentry, Braintrust) with some processing in the EU (Cloudflare). We use HTTPS encryption for all data in transit and follow industry-standard security practices.

Your rights

If you are in the EU, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to or restrict processing of your data

Cookies

Platto uses essential cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

Children's privacy

Platto is not intended for children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at hola@platto.food and we will delete it.

Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email.
